If you are looking to get longer, healthier hair that grows, we’re here to help. Grow & Flow was created to not only provide quality hair products to assist with your hair journey, but also to provide hair education and hair techniques to help make your journey easier along the way. Length usually comes after your hair is in a healthy state. We've got the healthy hair tips you need. Keep reading to learn some of our healthy hair habits to help you reach your hair goals.
1. Feed Your Hair Quality Ingredients
Healthy hair starts from the inside first and then out. Include lots of water, fruits and vegetables into your diet if you want to have healthier hair. We love hair growth smoothies. Try drinking a green hair growth smoothie daily ( apple, orange, cucumbers, cilantro, parsley, spinach, banana & greek yogurt) to give your hair a boost. It’s an easy way to get all of your nutrients in your hair daily.
2. Take Your Daily Vitamins
If you have always wondered, “”do vitamins really work, the answer is they do. A daily vitamin supplement that contains biotin and vitamin e can really help to strengthen your hair health and promote growth. Sometimes your hair is not growing because your body is missing essential vitamins and healthy fats. Take a daily vitamin to give your body the nutrients it may be lacking and promote healthy hair growth.
3. Avoid Excessive Heat
It’s okay to use heat in your hair, even though some naturalistas say to avoid heat like the plague. The key is to not overdue heat in your hair and always apply a heat protectant like our aloe vera leave in detangling hair mist. Too much heat can also lead to damaged hair that will never go back to its’ natural state, which is why many people end up doing the big chop. It can also lead to breakage and split ends. Again, using heat is not a bad thing, however you should be careful with the amount of heat you’re applying and how often to prevent breakage and dry hair. Here are a few tips:
- Use a quality flat iron. Avoid flatirons that don’t have set temperatures and only have the one and off setting. Never use the highest heat setting on your hair just because the option is available.
- Deep condition your hair or let the conditioner sit a little longer before blow drying and flat ironing to ensure your hair is hydrated properly.
- Always, always use a heat protectant.
4. Use A Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Shampoos that contain sulfates strip the hair of its natural moisture and ultimately dry out your hair. Instead, try a cleansing shampoo that does not have sulfates and promotes growth like our Deep-Cleansing Aloe Vera Shampoo. When washing your hair with shampoo, massage your scalp gently with your fingertips, not fingernails. Using your fingernails can scratch your scalp and we don’t want that. A sulfate-free shampoo can moisturize your hair and help you to grow longer, healthier hair.
- Deep Condition Regularly
Deep condition your hair at least twice a month. Our hair types often require extra moisture. After shampooing and conditioning, follow up with a quality deep conditioner. Or, let our moisturizing & detangling aloe vera conditioner sit for at least 20 minutes before washing it out. This helps to get moisture into each strand of your hair.
6. Detangle From End to Root
It’s important to be gentle with our hair types because it tends to break easily. Always start at the ends of your hair and then work your way up to the root slowly. Never detangle when you’re in a rush as this can lead to breakage. You can also use your fingers to gently detangle your hair before using a wide tooth comb.
7. Get Trims As Needed
When you trim your hair, you’re getting rid of split ends that could lead to more breakage. It’s not necessary to get your hair trimmed every time you go to the salon. Trimming your hair as needed will keep your hair in its’ healthiest state. If you’re not sure whether you need a trim, ask a trusted hair stylist for their opinion.
8. Protective Styles
Protective styles are only effective if you’re continuing to protect and care for your hair while it’s in the style. You can do this by applying an oil like our nourishing hair growth oil. Be sure to make sure that the style is installed properly and is not pulling too much on your hair, especially if you’re wearing a protective style like braids. Leaving your hair alone and doing nothing for a few days or weeks will help your hair to grow.
9. Protect Your Hair At Night
Sleeping without a scarf or bonnet at night is one of the main causes of hair breakage. Use a satin scarf, bonnet or pillowcase to keep your hair moisturized and protected while you sleep.
10. Massage Your Scalp
Massaging your scalp helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp, which promotes healthy hair growth. Use our nourishing hair growth oil 3 to 5 x’s a week and massage your scalp gently with your fingertips when applying. You will see so much new growth.
11. Trust the Process
I know it can be hard, especially when you want fast hair growth, but growing takes time. The best thing you can do is simply trust the process and stay consistent with these tips. Stressing can have the opposite effect on your hair. Love your hair, be patient with your hair and it will grow.
